Mission statement
The Civil Liberties Defence Centre is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and protect freedom of expression and other civil rights in Australia.
Our main objectives are to:
provide legal advice, assistance and representation to disadvantaged people facing legal issues due to the exercise of their civil rights in Australia;
conduct cases in the public interest for the protection of civil liberties;
advocate for the protection and promotion of civil liberties;
engage in community legal education to inform the Australian public about their civil liberties.
The CLDC acknowledges that it operates on stolen Aboriginal land and recognises the profound harm caused by settler colonialism on this continent.
In our work to defend civil liberties, we affirm that freedom is collective: none of us are truly free until all of us are free.
